Anna Dello Russo
“When the fashion crowd descends on a city for fashion week, they swiftly determine what will be "cool" for the rest of the year, such is the power and extent of their influence. Editors, photographers, celebrities and their stylists, models and their rock-star boyfriends, they are the most publicized barometers of good taste, the leaders which we all follow. Since everyone wants to know where the beautiful people eat, sleep, drink, and party, we did a little sleuthing amongst our fashionable friends to bring you the highlights in each city before the fashion extravaganzas begin. Bon journee! Log in for more on New York, London, Milan, and Paris”.

New York
To Stay:
The Carlyle Hotel is a landmark destination for the glamorous, rich, and powerful jetset who appreciate art, luxury, old-world charm, and sophistication. For an updated take on classic luxury, The Mark boasts interiors by Jacques Grange, a Frederic Fekkai salon, and a Jean Georges restaurant. Trendier fashionistas flock downtown to The Bowery Hotel, a grungy-glamorous haven for music, movie, and fashion stars like Kate Moss and Jennifer Lopez, and The Standard, hotelier Andre Balaz’s newly opened tower of sleek luxury in the Meatpacking District. Another popular favourite, The Soho House, is a low-key sanctuary for celebs who love the dim lounge/bar/resto club room and rooftop pool while guests at The Gramercy Park Hotel enjoy a decidedly more decadent glamour and aesthetic in their rooms and the charming ambiance of a Viennese teahouse in the terrace restaurant. The Crosby Street Hotel in Soho is also popular with celebs, as is the Soho Grand, the Mercer and Robert de Niro’s Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca.
Lunch:
Near the Tents: ‘Wichcraft Lincoln Center for delicious sandwiches on-the-go between shows, Fred’s at Barney for a glamorous power lunch (try the chicken salad), Pastis or the Standard Grill for classic bistro favourites like steak frites and Café Gitane when keeping it cool in Nolita. For power-players in the fashion game, Le Caprice at the Pierre is the high-end bistro of choice for a certain Vogue editor-in-chief, while her minions might be seen trying to get a seat at David Cheng’s newest momofuku venture, Ma Peche.
Dinner:
Heavy hitters, including Anna Wintour and the requisite smattering of celebrities, are regulars at hotspots like Waverly Inn, Minetta Tavern, The Lion, Monkey Bar, Da Silvano, and Bar Pitti. Slightly more low-key but tres chic amongst downtown stylists, models, photogs, and the like ar Lovely Day, Freemans, Fat Radish, Emporio, Blue Hill, Lucky Strike, Beauty and Essex, and Blue Ribbon. Omen is the zen-mecca noodle bar that Lou Reed and Mick Jagger like to eat at in West Soho.
Cocktails:
The Breslinat A ce Hotel has a swingin’ singles bar scene and hosts young, hip parties during fashion week while the scene in the lobby bar at The Bowery Hotel is much more low-key, hosting celebs and artists on the down-low drinking with friends by the fire. Uptown, Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel is a favourite for expensive drinks, live piano and jazz music, and the beautiful hand-painted walls. Hockey player turned Vogue intern Sean Avery’s sports bar/tavern, Warren 77, in Tribeca is a handsome draw for dudes looking to catch the game or the ladies looking to hang with the dudes.
Nightspots:
Boom Boom Room is still the place to see and be seen for the glitterati set while its grittier sister-club Le Bain is host to hipsters looking to spend less on cocktails while still impressing the models always on-hand. The Bunker Club, located in a subterranean vault in the Meatpacking District, boasts the only checkered dance floor in town and has been touted as the new Beatrice Inn (very cool). Nur Khan’s Rose Bar at Gramercy Park Hotel still plays host to models and bottles but the fashion crowd is more likely to be spotted at one of his downtown dance spots, like the freshly-minted and whitewashed Kenmare or the grimey ‘80s dive Don Hill’s. This Fashion Week, look out for French nightlife impresario Andre to open his hotly anticipated Chinatown club.
The Look:
Tailored, glamorous, uptown-meets-downtown, heels, blow-dry’s and hardware (on boots, bags, jewellery and clothing).
New York Style Stars:
Vogue editors Grace Coddington, Lauren Santo Domingo and Meredith Melling Burke, Sartorialist photographer Scott Schuman, Marie Claire editor Taylor Tomasi Hill, Nylon editor Dani Stahl, Elle editor Kate Lanphear,Teen Vogue editor Joanna Hillman, model Dree Hemingway, celebrity stylist Kate Young, socialite/reality TV star Olivia Palermo

Sienna and Savannah Miller epitomize
London's laid-back style
London
To Stay:
In Mayfair, deco-designed Claridges is the ultimate reservation for the most important in the fashion pack. Kate Moss took over both penthouses for her 30th birthday. Nearby, the equally glamorous St. James Hotel & Club has both a gastro pub and a haute cuisine restaurant, Seven Park Place. Stars and starlets like Sienna Miller and Ed Westwick have all been snapped leaving The Soho Hotel, which was named byTatler as "the most glamorous hotel in the world." Equally buzzed about is Dean Street Townhouse, Soho House’s latest offering in the middle of buzzing Soho that offers cheap (but small) rooms and a happening restaurant open all day. For a quieter scene, The Charlotte Street Hotel in Soho is eccentrically designed but relaxing and Blakes in Chelsea is beautiful, discreet, and always chic. Also popular are The Connaught Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel,The Mayfair, Langham Hotel, The Lanesborough, and The Berkeley.
Lunch:
Dean Street Townhouse in Soho is the place to see and be seen in between fashion shows, a favourite for its menu of British comfort food and guilty pleasures and communal dining atmosphere. A much more upscale, plush option is The Wolseley, an extravagant marble-adorned brasserie that is consistently packed with celebs like Ralph Fiennes. J Sheekey is a classic London establishment for delicious seafood and impeccable service. For something more relaxed and off the beaten path, hipsters like to stop for tea and cakes at Petersham Nurseries Café which has tables set up inside and outside the greenhouse where the chef pops in to pick fresh herbs for your plates. A private room is also rented out for fashion parties during fashion week.
Dinner:
The Ivy in London’s West End has been catering to celebrities and theatre-goers since 1917 and is still the spot to see and be seen whilst enjoying a typical English meal like shepard’s pie. Opened in 1947, its sister restaurant, Le Caprice, serves modern classic European fare but is equally expensive and filled with an equally glamorous crowd. At Sketch, the venue itself is the visual spectacle, with video projections on the walls and unisex white "pods" containing loos with pink lighting. Hush, a peaceful haven off the busy streets of Mayfair, offers relaxed sophistication, a European menu, and elegant outdoor courtyard. Cecconi’s in Mayfair has been an institution amongst London’s most stylish socials since it opened in 1978, but after a 2005 refurbishment, it is in better shape than ever, serving traditional Italian cuisine in a fun, buzzing atmosphere. The much hyped Daniel Boulud’s new Bar Boulud in the Mandarin Oriental is also a hotspot for drinks and dinner with the beautiful people, as is Les Deux Salons in Covent Garden, which just opened in October and serves gourmet French brasserie food from Michelin-starred chef Anthony Demetre.
Cocktails
The Connaught Bar at The Connaught Hotel is a great place to get elegantly pissed while lounging in chocolate leather armchairs and admiring the 1920’s Cubist art. The Long Bar at the Sanderson Hotel is "white, bright, and airy" and, well ... long. There are 80 feet of bar where you can nab a seat amongst the throngs of glamorous boys and girls or take a seat in the adjoining candlelit courtyard. Sir David Tang is known to take his BFF, Kate Moss, to drinks at his restaurant/club China Tang at the Dorchester when he’s in town. The Collection, a bar/resto inside a split-level warehouse, packs a big wow with its 80-foot glass catwalk entrance and a sprawling bar scene on the lower level, which Tatler named "Best Scene." If none of those tickle your fancy, there’s the celebrity-owned watering holes too, like Punchbowl, once owned by Madonna and Guy Ritchie, and The Cow, an West London fave of Miss McCartney and Miss Moss.
Nightlife
High-octane glamour is on the menu at Cuckoo Club, one of the city’s destinations du jour for the posh set, with 5,000 square feet of rock n’ roll chic and an awesome restaurant. Whiskey Mist inside Hilton’s Zeta Bar is also super cool and full of sophisticated stunners. Volstead in the West End is more intimate, a retro jazz club with mirrored walls and a hedonistic 1920s vibe. Private members club Boujis is still hot after over eight years serving vodka sodas to stars like Prince William and his younger brother Harry. The tropical island-themed Mahiki, where Rhianna was recently partying, is fun for a kitschy cocktail with a younger, public school boy crowd. Artists and actors looking for relaxed, bohemian environs prefer The Groucho Club, which also open to members only. The newest venue that has tongues wagging this year is the Wyld Bar in the W Leicester Square. Opening just in time for fashion week, the rumour is that it has a giant disco ball.
The Look:
More casual, relaxed, laid-back, with messy unkempt hair, looser fitting clothes, touches of punk, leather, boots or flats rather than heels, layering of different fabrics and knits. Men are more tailored with dabs of colour in waistcoats, ties, and silk kerchiefs.
London Style Stars:
Future Princess Kate Middelton, Daphne Guinness, fashion designers Phoebe Philo, Kate Moss, Sienna and Savannah Miller, Tamara Mellon and Stella McCartney, shoe designer Charlotte Dellal, model Alice Dellal, actresses Emma Watson, Kiera Knightley and Carey Mulligan, stylist Caroline Sieber, TV personality Alexa Chung, models Georgia Jagger, Alexandra and Theodora Richards, Annabelle Wallis, Becka Diamond and Poppy Delevigne, jewellery designer Jade Jagger, Pop magazine editor Dasha Zukhova
v:shapes="_x0000_i1068">
Italian fashion icon Anna Della Russo
arrives at a fashion show.
Milan
To Stay:
The top tier of fashion's elite stay at the Bulgari Hotel, a sexy, minimalist, elegant affair with extensive private gardens, a spa, and an outdoor meditation area. For more opulent luxury, the 19th century Principe di Savoia overlooking the historic square in the centre of Milan is favored by celebrities like Madonna, the Beckhams, and George Clooney. The Gray, a smaller and more modern hotel, has sexy, unexpected touches, like private gyms in some rooms and is popular amongst fashionistas looking for something more private, away from the masses. The Sheraton Majestic Diana combines historic architecture with modern comforts and the outdoor HClub is popular amongst stylish fashion week attendees. Maison Moschino recently opened in a renovated 19th-century railway station with 65 fashion-themed rooms (evening dresses decorate the headboards and breakfast is served in a shoe box). The Carlton Baglioni is situated in the fashion centre and houses an excellent restaurant, Il Baretto, where designers and stylists love to eat. The hippest of all hotels and bars, 10 Corso Como might also be the most exclusive – it only has three rooms. Other fashionable favourites: The Four Seasons, the Westin Palace, and the Park Hyatt.
Lunch:
A classic Milanese trattoria, Bagutta opened in 1926 and is still a favourite of those in the know, including Sartorialist photographer Scott Schuman and his girlfriend Garance Doré. At Clandestino inside Maison Moschino, Micheli- starred chef Moreno Cedroni presents unusual, colourful sushi creations with provocative twists. Risotto lovers die and go to heaven at 23 Risotti, which serves Milan’s delicacy (risotto) 23 different ways. L’Assassino may translate to "the murder" but this family-owned spot near the Doumo is laid-back and elegant, serving Tuscan cuisine with a modern twist. The ultra exclusive Giannino also serves traditional Italian haute cuisine to the likes of David and Victoria Beckham.
Dinner
Known for its fresh sea food,Da Giacomo is one of the most prestigious restaurants in the city. For a casual but still divine supper, head next door toDa Giacomo Bistro. Cantina Della Vetra, a Milanese trattoria for foodies with money to spend, is favoured for its impressive wine list and delectable dishes. Lotvs, situated in the Marangoni Fashion Institute, is an elegant, glamorous, upscale restaurant and nightclub for the rich and flashy. Whereas,La Pesa, an historical kitchen where Ho Chi Minh worked when he escaped from Vietnam, is an insider's scret for wonderfully simple, traditional Mllanese cooking and a low-key gem. For sushi lovers, Nobu is an upscale, dependable option but Fingers offers the same menu for less and with less attitude.
Cocktails:
One of the best parts about the Milano experience is that time between 6pm and 9pm every evening when almost every bar in town offers free bar snacks with discounted cocktails. The apertivo tradition brings people together, indoors and out, so almost anywhere you go will be fun. Favourites include Spanish winery La Tasca for a glass of vino outside on the sidewalk facing the church of San Lorenzo and Bar Straf near the Duomo, where fashionistas chat trends over Negronis. The real fashion crowd hits up Dolce and Gabbana Gold Bar, which has three floors of gold and mirrors including a restaurant, nightclub, and bar, but its most popular for the fun people watching. VIP editors talk shop at the Principe Bar in the Principe Hotel if they're not at the10 Corso Como Cafe, where the fashion forward meet during fashion week for drinks, food, and to browse the high end concept gift shop.
Nightlife:
Plastic, one of the most popular dance clubs in Milan, is packed with well-connected party animals who come to dance till the morning on one of the three dance floors: techno, soft, and the VIP area. Circle Lounge is a bar/restaurant that becomes a hopping party scene for beautiful people on select evenings. Just Cavalli is the eponymous cafe of the outlandish designer. He outfitted his party palace with leopard pillows, black leather sofas, and multi-coloured lights and hosts lavish parties on Friday nights for the fashion crowd. Armani/Prive is one of the most well-known nightclubs in Milan and comes with a strict door policy to match the steep bottle service charge that you must book days in advance.
The Look:
Tailored, dressed-up but no evening wear during the day, splashes of bold colour and eccentric touches of flair and creativity.
Italian Style Stars
Fashion editor Anna Dello Russo, writer Anna Piaggi, entrepreneur Lapo Elkan and his girlfriend Bianca Brandolini d’Adda, design royalty Margerhita Missoni, socialite Coco Brandolini d’Adda, actresses Isabella Rossellini andKiera Chaplin
Carine and Julia Resoin-Roitfeld embody
mother-daughter Parisienne chic
Paris
To Stay:
Hotel Plaza Athénée is the embodiment of high-end elegance and luxury, Parisian-style, with the added treat of chef Alain Ducasse’s signature three-star restaurant on the ground floor. The Four Seasons Hotel George Vis also staple amongst high-powered editors and execs, sporting marble elevators, panoramic views, rare tapestries, and impeccable service. The uber-chic Park Hyatt Paris Vendome regularly welcomes high-profile guests, while Le Meurice, a mainstay for blue chip fashion editors, boasts a different décor for each room, designed by Philippe Starck. The trendy Hotel Costes is still an A-list address for the in-crowd who loves the dark, seductive rooms and sexy bar/resto/lounge designed by Jacques Garcia. Hotel L’Amour is cheap and chic, a hipster haven owned by Andre Saravia and popular amongst the more rock 'n roll fashionistas like Purpleeditor Olivier Zahm, who no doubt likes the erotic art and romance novels that adorn each room in lieu of televisions or phones.
Lunch:
Ralph Lauren’s eponymous restaurant Ralph’s might be the most buzzed about dining venue this fashion week, offering American classics like burgers and fried chicken to peckish beauties in leather armchairs underneath hunt-themed oil paintings next to a gas fire. Café Flore is still the coolest lunch spot in town for the young fashion crowd who like to sit outside on the terrace for the people watching. Chez Georges is a favourite for its unpretentious, old-fashioned bourgeois French cuisine, while an outdoor table seat at L’Avenueis the place to see and be seen for the American fashion editors during the day. While rich Parisian cuisine like the Dover sole at Le Voltaire is usually a must for VIPs like Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs. Models favour healthy eats atRose Bakery, which serves high-quality British deli-food and salads. Ferdi Burger has been the fashion industry’s favourite burger since it opened in 2004.
Dinner:
Brasserie Lipp is renowned for its cheap, chic, classic eats and is a popular spot to dine before hitting the dance floor at Le Montana. Le Dome is known for its exquisite fish dishes and hosting Nicolas and Carla regularly for dinner while the more recently opened Glou, which also serves traditional French cuisine, welcomes movie stars like Marion Coitillard. La Société does food and live jazz for the chic-set and La Stresa does Italian for those who need a break from butter, namely Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Campbell. The retro-chic brassiere La Fidélité is a go-to for the brat pack, having been revamped by the team behind the hot nightclub Le Baron. Chef Daniel Rose’s newly re-opened Spring has only 16 seats and is nearly impossible to get into, but the creative market-to-table, four-course menu (set every night) is well worth any wait.
Cocktails:
The bar at the Bar du Plaza Athénée lights up when touched, which is one reason that thirsty night owls like to drink the famous champagne cocktails there. Ritzy interiors and heinously expensive drinks are also to be found at Hemingway Bar at the Ritz Hotel, a classic spot for the wealthy and fabulous. The younger set might be found outside at Café Flore, downing vodkas before heading to nearby Le Montana to disco or at Hotel Costes, which is much adored for its dark, sexy bar, and hidden tables. Real cocktail enthusiasts like Experimental Cocktail Bar for its elaborate alcoholic concoctions. Castel is also a hotspot for drinks in the Quartier Latin but don’t attempt to get into Le Mathis unless you’re rolling with a serious entourage of VIPs. Rosa Bonheuris a hipster fave for the inexpensive bar bites and laid-back park setting.
Nightlife:
Le Baron is still going strong after more than five years of hype. The nightclub has an has a crowd that is eclectic, dim lighting and flowing champagne - it’s always a place to see and be seen. Graffiti artist Andre Saraiva is also behind Le Montana, the Studio 54-like nightclub he opened with Purple magazine’sOlivier Zahm in 2009 and the famous Chez Regine, which he helped re-launch in 2008. Anything Andre and his friends touch seems to turn to gold, so head to any of his establishments on any given night for a sure bet on a great party.
The Look:
Louche, sexy, evening wear during day, dark colours, glamour, unkempt hair, sunglasses, high heels, smoky kohl eyes or bright red lipstick, something from Chanel
